Modern Twist: Contemporary Japanese Bamboo Art
Modern Twist explores the evocative, sensual, and sculptural power of contemporary bamboo art. The exhibition demonstrates that in the hands of master bamboo artists, a simple grass is transformed into a sculptural art. The exhibition celebrates these artists who have helped to redefine a traditional craft as a modern genre, inventing unexpected new forms and pushing the medium to groundbreaking levels of conceptual, technical, and artistic ingenuity. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Andreas Marks, head of the Department of Japanese and Korean Art and Director of the Clark Center at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Lorenzana: Archival Collection
IA&A Design Studio presents this complete examination of the Archival Collection of Luis Lorenzana. This unusual and previously undisclosed selection of Lorenzana’s work comes from a time early in his artistic evolution, when one can sense his emotions rising roughly to the surface of his paintings and drawings in raw and unrestrained bursts of impassioned force. Lorenzana: Archival Collection accompanies the exhibition of selected works at Leon Gallery in Manila. The exhibition launched on February 1.
The 225-page book is authored by Michelle Yun, Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Asia Society Museum. Contributing essays are by Ryu Niimi, director of the Oita Prefectural Art Museum and one of Japan’s leading curators and critics of contemporary art; Associate Professor and former Chair of the Department of History, Ateneo de Manila University, Ambeth Ocampo; and independent curator and writer Lisa Nakpil.
